December 2023 - now
I have crafted for myself a volunteering role as a designer - using skills and activities from Service and UX design.

The association
Camminare Insieme is a free clinic based in Torino, offering medical and dental services, education around health topic and social support to anybody unable to access the national sanitary system.

What do I do
I used Service design to:
  • ease the internal bureaucracy and workflows: redesigning documents, challenging the process, ..
  • help the ongoing digitalization process of the association's internal workflow
  • help designing and writing a more efficient and usable knowledge base for new or current volunteers

In particlar, the challenge of communicating with the volunteers (non-young and non-technical) my possible contribution has been a great growth opportunity.
What now
As my life in Torino is over, I finished supporting the implementation of our projects.
I'm now starting a fascinating project in collaboration with a grass-up think tank from association from Parma, with the goal of easing the access to Public Services - with particular focus on the needs of immigrant women (just imagine how messy is our bureaucracy for them).
I'm also the referent for social and volunteering activities for the Accenture offices in Modena.

Final considerations

To go further with design and implementation of the idea, there would need to be a wider user research and co-design approach, involving policy makers, users and providers from different areas and demographics.
Some mistakes would need to be avoided, in particular:

> drop a new load of responsibility on the "mom" of the network, without a dynamic of mutual support;

> avoid to create confusion and useless bureaucracy for doctors and nurses;

> caution with privacy and treatment of sensitive data, giving full control
to the users.
