Amazing experience both for my career and for me as a person.
But since this is a portfolio and not my diary, here's a recap of two of my favourite project from that time (1st academic, 2nd professional):

Project number 1

My Master thesis, policy-design project built involving professionals from the public sector and estonian citizens.
I wrote a pension policy re-design proposal to promote financial independence by creating a natural hype around it in Estonia.

Why was it cool to work on this
Experimenting with user research was a great learning experience, and a lot of fun. In particular, using drawing exercises as a tool to help my interviewee (random estonians found through surveys and Couch-surf) reflect on sensitive topic such as life-planning and finances was extremely effective and quite fun (e.g. ____).
Another + was to work on a public interest topic in collaboration with a government agency, applying design and HCD methods in a field usually considered not verydesigny.

What did I do
Extensive research to find and define the problem to solve;
qualitative and quantitative user research;
an online work-out sesh / ideation workshop;
writing of the policy re-design;
quick speculative prototyping of how the policy could influence the creation of services and digital products;
testing (through the prototypes or my raw written proposal) with citizens and public sector experts

Nice project number 2

I worked while studying during my MA. Between other projects, I helped build Weventum.
Weventum is platform to seamlessly provide everything needed to search for, buy and store tickets for an event; organize and promote events, sell the tickets and keep track of the analytics; host online events.
The idea and came from a team of two (engineering and marketing person), who asked me to take care of all of the the design side.

Why was it cool to work on this
To have full control - and responsibility - of the design and the methods applied meant it had been necessary to step-up my time-management and prioritization skills. I also enjoyed working close with the person in charge of the implementation, to receive quick feedback over the technical feasibiilty and possibilities of the work I was doing and improve it along the way.

What did I do
  • User interviews;
  • Behavioural personas and User flows
  • Benchmark and inspirational research;
  • Information Architecture and structure of the platform;
  • Wireframes;
  • Microcopy;
  • UI design;
  • Brand design (logo and brand guidelines)
  • User testing;
all of which happened in strict exchange with developers and PO
